Slab table on driftwood

This handcrafted slab coffee table is made from a 3″ thick maple slab with a driftwood(also called root) base. A slab top has a natural edge on the front and back side and is made from a large piece of wood sliced vertically. We typically make slab tables from pine, cedar, red cedar, and maple. Slab tables are custom made to any size. A typical coffee table would be 48″ in length, 18″ tall and 18″ deep. We also make benches in this same height to various lengths from 24″ to 96″ and normally 12″ – 15″ deep. The slab tops can be 2″ thick to 5″ thick.

Slab tables can be made for use as end tables, night stands, benches, coffee tables, sofa tables, kitchen tables, and pub tables or any other table size or height. They can range in size of small phone stand 12″ square to a large dinning table to seat 10.  The natural edge allows natures beauty to shine through. All of our slab tables are one of a kind as no two trees are identical.  With the wide variety of wood that can be used a slab table can accent any decor.

Slab table on stump

This slab pine end table was handcrafted by our artisians from a 2″ thick pine slab. The base is a cedar stump. A stump base is another option for any slab table and some large dining room tables are crafted with two stumps to hold the weight and balance the table top. These are just a few examples of the slab furniture our artisans can handcraft for you. Everyday our artisans work with people just like you creating the perfect accent piece for your home. If you can dream up an idea we can build it custom for you. We start by creating a sketch and even let you pick your slab and stump base if you want.

Log Dresser

Here is an example of our rustic quarter log cedar style.  This is a six drawer dresser.  We also make chests, nightstands, tv stands, armoires and desks in this style.  This style uses quarter log sides and drawer fronts.  This is a solid wood dresser.  Our standard size is 64″ long, 22″ deep and 30″ tall.  Like all our products, this dresser is custom built so it can be made to any size or instead of six drawers it can be made taller and contain eight drawers.

This is another example of the custom rustic cedar log furniture we make here in northern Michigan.  Please stop into our showroom if you come to Cheboygan.  Rustics North is happy to make your next custom furniture piece.

Custom Hickory Bar

Custom Hickory Bar

We recently made this custom all hickory bar for a client.  The top of the bar is solid hickory with a hickory bark edge.  The sides, front, drawer front and door are also hickory.  The legs are hickory logs and handles are hickory branches.  This bar was made to a specific size with a refrigerator opening on the inside left, small drawer above the refrigerator and open storage as well as storage behind the doors on the right side.  Trim branch work on the front and sides finishes this bar.  This is an example of the beautiful custom work are craftsman are able to provide.

Maple Burl & Hickory Dining Table and Chairs

This custom dining piece was produced from 3 slabs of Maple burl with a natural edge left around the outside of the table top.

Maple Burl & Petoskey Stones

To address nature’s effect on the wood, some of the checks were filled in with epoxy and the remaining checks were inlayed with Petoskey stone’s and epoxy. The epoxy provides a clear view to the interior of the wood and, in some instances, a view completely through the wood.

Maple Burl Table and Hickory Chairs

Under the table we added 4 – eight inch diameter hickory legs to support the massive Maple top. Surrounding this custom masterpiece, there are 4 hickory chairs to complete the dining ensemble. We are proud to show you this example of a custom masterpiece. The true beauty in crafting our pieces from Nature is the unlimited possibilities it offers.
